Kalamazoo Area Runners/Battle Creek Road Runners

Minutes – June 6, 2007

Attending:  Bonnie, Ralph, Dave, Carrie, Sherry, Cindy, Sara and Joe

Serious Accident of Member Carol Vogt’s son –

Carol’s son was involved in a serious skateboarding accident and is hospitalized here in Kalamazoo.  There will be a card available at the Kalamazoo Klassic for all members to sign.

Todd Prom Resigns –

Todd Prom has decided to resign his position with the KAR.  He will still be doing the Mystery Hash Run in July and has offered to continue updating the webpage until a replacement can be found.  Joe to try and update the website to get it as current as possible.  Joe will contact Todd/Jay Campbell to obtain information about software and passwords.

KAR Brochure –

A new brochure for 2007 was discussed.  Suggestions to improve the KAR brochure included different size, photos, added detail of benefits to runners and a more summarized look at the KAR’s events.  Carrie will begin work on this this summer with a deadline of late September to finalize.

Kalamazoo Klassic –

Preparation for the Kalamazoo Klassic with MRC is going well.  Volunteers are still needed and an e-mail will be going out recruiting KAR members.  KAR will be giving out candy at the finish line at the KAR tent, as well as working at the race expo the night before.

Relay for Life –

There are now 26 members on the team and they are in the top 5 of 40 teams for fundraising!  The KAR will be having a silent auction at their tent site to raise additional funds.

Safari Training –

Approximately 100 people have already signed (about 30% for the half marathon).  Bonnie expects more applications to come in this week as the first long run looms on the 10th.  There are still outstanding issues with the Kal-Haven trail and the demographics of paying fees for the long runs.  Dave has been in contact with them but there is still a lot of confusion.  Possible meeting to be set up in the future to set up a set price.  The Safari is still looking for a coach for the 11 minutes + team for the marathon (Dave considering) as well as some Safari guides for speed workouts at Western.

Girls on Track –

Per conversations with Girls on Track reps, it looks like the Kal-Haven Trail run and Girls on Track will be partnering up in the future.  Previous concerns of conflicting seasons have been discussed with Sandy Barry-Loken of GOT and she believes they will be able to provide volunteers for the Kal-Haven run from previous event participants as well as GOTR participants.   Because the Kal-Haven run seeks to keep costs low, alternatives for fundraising for GOT were discussed with one possible option being the addition of a donation line on the application itself.

Annual Runner Awards –

Different categories were discussed for the annual award banquet.  The general consensus was to try out the nominations and tweak them as needed in subsequent years.

Communications –

All board members are asked to ask for assistance as needed on duties and responsibilities if they can’t be completed in a timely manner.

Wednesday Al-Sabo Runs –

Bonnie and Dave will resume the Al- Sabo runs beginning the Wednesday after the Klassic with different paces to be accommodated.
