KAR Executive Board Meeting

July 12, 2004

University Roadhouse

Present: Rollin Richman, Bonnie Sexton, Dave Walch, Ralph, Steve Hicks, Charlie Crouch, Scott Taylor, Jay Campbell

Agenda Items:

  1. Hash run awards: Charlie would like to award those who do all hash runs in the year. Bonnie has a list of those in the second run but not the first. We will use honor system for the first run. The award is to be something funny such as a ribbon and a compass.
  2. Newsletter update:
  • KAR Star is Fred Colbert
  • Stories to be included – The Robinson story, Boston Marathon, Klassic recap and snafus, Heidi’s consecutive win streak, and an article on the North Country Trail.
  • Blaine Lam’s speed workout, One More Reason to Run, Dave’s “On the Corner”, River Bank Run,
  • It will be published at the end of the month.
  1. Distribution of the newsletter complaints – a complaint was received on the back of a raffle ticket at the Klassic. We will continue to offer the newsletter on line and at various health centers along with Gazelle Sports. We will try to continue to communicate to members where they can be found.
  2. Club Championship Award
  • Jay gave us an updated list (very small font) of the current age group standings.
  • There is a little problem with the exclusion of some members of a family.
  • The Exec board recommends giving the age group winners (1 st to 3 rd) a pair of logo gloves.
  1. Outdoor Track Workouts – Most that participate are doing their own workouts. Steve is coaching them less and working out more, which is fine with him.
  2. Membership Update:
  • 20 memberships will expire in July.
  • 7 new members
  • 55 new members participating in the Gazelle Marathon Training.
  • 60 of last year’s GMT members will expire soon.
  • Rollin will get Bonnie and Jay a list of those memberships that expire.
  1. Marathon Training Dates
  • Steve, Charlie, Dave, and Bonnie will be support staff for the runs on Aug. 21 and Sept. 25.
  1. Kal-haven Relay – Dave suggests we try to coordinate the relay with the Borgess Run Camp. The relay would need to be run in late March or early April.
  2. The Portage Invitational Open 5K cross-country race is not going to happen this year. The Dan Wytko has not returned Scott’s emails and Steve says that the Portage Northern coaches are not in favor of including the race this year.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45
