Report from Athens - Many of you know coaching legend George Dales. George was coach of the NCAA Cross-Country Champions of 1964 and 1965 and still lives in Kalamazoo. At 81 he is still active in the coaching scene as President of the International T&F Coaches Association. George's Greek heritage also led to his increased value to the 2004 Greek Olympic Planning committee. George was so good as to provide us some of his thoughts and pictures of the 2004 Olympics. Special congrats to all those among the herds that were first-timers - you are now officially marathoners!

We are also happy to say that several KAR members, some of them first-timers as well, qualified for Boston including Cindy Owen (3:42:56), Ralph Meyer (3:30:52), Kelly Elder (3:23:18), Sherry Selby (3:20:17) and Audrey Hill (3:18:37). Excellent runs all!

Some of our friends from the SHufflers were live on the scene as well including Phil Ni, Karen Fuhrman and Gary Butcher.

Closer to home, the Midwest's leading High School Cross Country Runners descended upon Portage West Middle School for the annual Portage Invitational Cross Country Meet. Several KAR/BCRR members came out to show their support by running in the new Open Event including Kalamazoo Area Runners co-ed team of Matt Babbitt, Dave Walch, Jay Campbell, Bonnie Sexton and Teresa Xaundria. We are still trying to figure out if we were the only co-ed team in the running! Awesome runs KAR/BCRR participants Stuart Crowell (Dad was working this time), Max Sine and Steve Penix.

What an awesome turnout we had at Monday night's meeting. Special thanks to Stephanie Millis and Rob Lillie of Gazelle Sports for their informative presentation on Gait Analysis. It was great meeting Jared Glover, Elaine Naegele and Julie Hoffman. Way to stroll the runway Dan Wolf and Charlie Broberg - you've got the catwalk down! We extend a warm welcome to new member Todd Prom. Good to see you again, Robin Carpenter.

Bruce Watson, Jared Glover and Mike Yarbrough have all recently received their Al Sabo Preserve initiation by the Fleet Ones. Let us know if you would like us to introduce you to the trails!

See you on the roads, track and trails.
