LOCATION: Start and finish behind Schoolcraft Middle School (14th Street and Clay)
5 Mile race is on flat county roads (NOT certified, vehicle traffic)
1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is on flat residential streets (vehicle traffic)
SCHEDLULE: Mail in registration must be post-marked by midnight 20 June

Race day registration 7-8 am Saturday, July 3, 2004*
5 mile race start 8:00 am, 1 mile Fun run/walk start 8:05 am
Awards will be presented as soon as possible after the race
Join in the activities around Schoolcraft all day long (see over!)
*May be postponed or canceled if unsafe conditions develop.
AWARDS: Medals to top three overall male/female. Age group ribbons for next three finishers

FEES for 5 mile: $9 with t-shirt, $ 4 no t-shirt pre-registered

I understand that participating in a Running Race or Fun Run/Walk is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter the race or run /walk unless I am medically able and properly trained. Schoolcraft Firecracker 5 mile Race 1 mile Fun Run
Schoolcraft, Michigan is on Highway 131 about 8 miles south of I-94 (Kalamazoo/Portage) and about 11 miles north of Three Rivers. Schoolcraft Middle School (formerly the High School) is 1/2 mile east of 131 at Clay and 14th Street. The stop lights on 131 at Eliza and Lyons are 1/4 mile either side of Clay Street.
The 5 mile
course (NOT certified) is a loop course (***)
that starts at the Middle School parking lot (near the track/football stadium) and runs a
short distance east, then turns north (left) for about 1/4 mile on 14th street, turns east
(right) on VW avenue for about 3/4 mile, turns north (left) on Oakland for 1 1/2 miles,
turns west (left) on U avenue for 3/4 mile, turns south
(left) on 14th street for about 1 3/4 mile and turns west (right) into the Middle
School parking lot to finish (same as start). The
road surface is paved and has only a few small inclines (elevation change is less than 25
feet). The course includes a parking lot,
village streets and county roads that are NOT closed to vehicle traffic. Runners are to run on the side of the road such
that they are facing traffic at all times. Water
stops will be set up at the 2 1/2 mile point at the corner of Oakland and U Avenue and
near the 3.2 mark on 14th Street if sufficient helpers are available. Mile markers will be posted and splits will
be provided if sufficient help is available.
The 1 mile
Fun run/walk is also a loop course (***) that
starts at the Middle School parking lot (near the track/football stadium) where
participants go east to 14th Street, turn south (right) on 14th street for a
short distance, turn east (left) on Maple,
turn north (left) on Tulip, turn west (left)
on VW avenue (Lyons Street), turn south (left)
on 14th street and then turn west (right) into the Middle
School parking lot to finish (same as the start).
This is a non-competitive event. No
times or places will be recorded.

WHEREVER POSSIBLE, RUN/WALK AT THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD or on SIDEWALKS, EXERCISE CAUTION CROSSING ALL INTERSECTIONS and YIELD TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC. ***
A number of
events besides the race and fun run/walk will take place over the course of the Schoolcraft 4th of July Celebration . These may include; pancake breakfast,
parade, car show, craft show, games, fire truck rides, fireworks at dusk and tours of the
historic Underground Railroad House.
